It's 20 years of active service minimum to qualify for any retirement bennies. 19 years, 11 months, 3 weeks of service gets you zero retirement. There is not sliding scale and there is never a guarantee of a retirement. Otherwise everyone would do a 4 year military stint and then leave. There are exceptions for medical retirements. And there are VA disability benefits as well, but they are not retirement benefits. I don't have time to start on your inaccuracies of the education benefits. It's Father's Day, I'm off work today, and my family is taking me out. Happy Father's Day to all the Daddys out there, especially those that are working, military and civilian!
There is nothing inaccurate about the education benefits. If you want a degree, the military will pay for it no questions asked.
And while most people do not do 20, if it's something you want to do, as long as you don't do something to get you court martialed or DNP, you can ride it out with Uncle Sam. Some of the most worthless officers I knew are going to get their 20.
