Had a guy in our unit do this at the 16 year point. Took the pay and ran. He is now in the reserves and will get a reserve retirement. The VSP money he took comes directly off of the retirement pay he gets starting at 60. Not sure of the details, but I am sure if you retire from the reserves, your check will not be very big until late. My whole point, is to invest that money wisely.
