I just completed a back-end dev. via surface transportation. Two and a half hour limo (OK, Chevy Astro Van) ride from the hotel front door to my vehicle in my staging base parking lot. Total cost was under the accepted fare, but over the $200.00 limit (requiring RCP approval).

For pre-approval, just use the "Pre-Approval" tab under "Expense Report Data" on the pilot website. Got a crew notification the next day that it had been approved by the RCP. Pretty painless. No airport security, busy terminals, and besides, I'm afraid to fly.
