Let’s look at this scenario: Days 1-4 are normal, but you need Days 5-6 off, Days 7-8 are normal, too. Looking at the above posts, that wouldn't be approved.
HOWEVER, you are available to work a Day 9. That gives you 3 days on the tail end. Would that satisfy the policy hounds? Would Day 9 be paid as an extra day or would it be treated as a trade for one of the days off? In other words, you only burned one vacation day.
I think having a full staff would help with some of the last minute requests that can be denied. For the most part, the long-range requests are granted as the staffing level fluctuates, so the policy/structure works well. There are ton of scenarios you can run through to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of any system, and each company has their own vacation policy to help promote QOL, EAS being one that allows for a bit more flexibility.
Thanks!
