Can't speak to DAL, but NB reserve at UAL is a junior man's game. The rules are not exactly favorable (there are some good ones) and there's not much push to get them improved. Dropping R-Days is extremely rare. Most NB domestic reserves are constantly on short call (2.5 hour to show) and field standby (in uniform at the airport-4 hours) for no extra pay. Rarely see anyone above 70% bid reserve here. I can count the number of LSR days I've had in the last year on 3 fingers. Feb 2017 hires in EWR 737 are still on reserve (not by choice).
