Come to a regional and upgrade quickly, enjoy good work rules and respectable pay, and move on to a major or legacy in 4-5 years. That's the standard formula that most regional pilots are looking for, and fortunately this new contract is the first step in delivering that.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
That's the mindset many of us had when hired before 9/11 and got to suck up the dark decade (and a half) before getting to move on.
Hopefully it never happens to you. But when/if it does, you and many others will see in in a different perspective.
