You have to understand taking a delivery position. They have so many escape clauses it's not funny. Their are Companies that do nothing more than block positions and sell them at a premium, if they can't they back out. Ted point blank told me getting a new Airbus isn't an issue. They want them at a discount. Boeing is offering that discount. But they want a complete fleet switch over. So to answer your question, yes the order is for new Aircraft.
A complete fleet switch for any LCC or ULCC would not be easy. The biggest example that I can think of was EasyJet. After a quick google search they had around 88 737s before switching to an all Airbus fleet so not impossible? But boy that would be a pain.
