The CRJ instructor isn’t completely accurate.
APDs and sim proficiency check pilots both require line pilot qualification. In fact, any check pilot does. Also, a seat filler must be line seat qualified, as well as instructors for upgrade.
So, everyone can’t be sent back to the line. And, a pilot only becomes qualified as a check pilot by being an instructor. So, your CRJ instructor is blowing it out his ass.
