The sad reality is they need to figure out a way to bring down the absurdly high longevity we have. Almost half of the people holding a captain slot are topped out on the payscale. Upgrades are still 7 years. I don’t see how we can have any future competing with places that have low longevity, 1 to 2 year CAs working under terrible contracts and QOL so people bail after a few years. Keeping them cost competitive. Reality... who is staying at Mesa, CommutAir or Gojet for 18 plus years. Probably not too many.
On the CRJ side Mesa have plenty of 18+ year captains. It routinely takes a couple of years to hold a line at senior bases.
Mesa’s contract is structured so it is hard to cross between aircraft. That makes the new aircraft junior (like the Ejet) for both FO and CA.
