Get the private and evaluate how you feel about taking the plunge to get the rest of the ratings. After the private there's no reason a lot of the training couldn't be done after work, at night. That might help you accelerate the process. I'd recommend visiting flight schools you are interested in and doing an intro flight, they should be anywhere between $100-200.
