NWA can only take away these planes if they pull them out of service. They cant just take them and give them to mesaba. Its in the contract. Pinnacle is done giving mesaba planes after the 15.
O.K., I re-read that part of the ASA, and your correct.
I see NWA's reason for that in the ASA. Like Lighteningspeed said, NWA probably doesn't mind just parking the 50 seaters and having nobody fly them, since they can just order up some more 900's for Mesaba. NWA is probably hoping Pinnacle flies a lot more 900's for Delta so they can exercise that option in the ASA.
