Okay, it’s been over 30 years since I exited the Military. Back then you incurred a 2 year commitment. Is it the same nowadays?

My youngest is a 1st Lt in the Army. His active duty commitment is 3 years which is up in early November 2019. Will he add (approx 15 months if he moved now) to his time if he doesn’t put in that he is getting out when his active duty commitment is up? He was ROTC and says he has a 3 year active duty and 4 years reserve commitment.
