This. Especially if you live in a Compass base, life isn't too bad. I always told myself that as long as I drive to work, there's nothing wrong with shooting for the legacies and not "lower my sights" until things REALLY went downhill at Compass. Luckily that time for me never came during my time there. If the Delta flying goes away (which I'm unsure of), then absolutely I'd take the flow, but I'd also start applying a LOT of different places.
Every recruiter I've talked to at a legacy airline has said that they prefer guys who have Part 121 PIC time (even at a regional) over LCC/ULCC FO time, even if it's another type rating (and even in something that the legacy airline flies). Their reasoning is they want to see someone make those PIC decisions (since they're hiring someone imagining them being a captain, not just a FO) and even if they already have the type, they'll still have to go through training on that plane. In light of that information, that's why I chose to stick it out at Compass. Full disclosure, only 1 of my 5 "dream" companies called me (and 1 of them even told me I wasn't competitive enough to even tour their headquarters), so it's not always true that "once one of them calls, they all call." So in light of that, I can see why some guys would take the flow if presented.
