Well what other metrics are there to measure a pilot by besides time, types, clean training record, and other flight experience.
It's not like we're NASCAR drivers and can be measured by how many wins we have. lol
Training issues don't necessarily make one a bad investment either. There are explanations that vary by the circumstances and what was learned. A clean record doesn't get you hired. In fact, it appears sometimes to be the opposite! I know several who have bent metal at a regional now happily flying at mainline.
