The above scenerio is unrealistic as the company isn’t going to sit you in a hotel or random location on volunteer days and not fly you.

More realist scenario:

16 days (64 hour guarantee) @ 117.54: $7552.56
5 days of volunteer with 20hours of flying
(2 days of 10 hours of flight time + 3 days of MPG(30.5 flight pay)): $3584.97
5 days of volunteer pay: $2200

Total monthly compensation: $13,337.53
Most junior 767 upgrade now 2 years. With anticipated fleet expansion on the 777 side upgrade should stay low until we’ve hired enough to staff all hulls. Getting in now would be good, getting in 6-9 months from now could get you into longer upgrades.

You’re example scenario actually happened. Guy I know was displaced for training and then volunteered. They used him 27 out of 31 days on reserve. He flew 5 hours all month doing SEA-BFI and back repo flights. They kept taking away the flights for guys needing landings.
Rented a car and on the long call days and visited everything from Portland to Vancouver. Gross pay was $19k

Moral to story, don’t volunteer a whole month expecting only 3-5 days.
