Most airlines lease their engines, so it doesn’t necessarily mean they are stuck with whatever is hanging off the pylons. It’s probably a whole lot easier to get them on this side of the pond, swap engines, and ship the other ones back to whomever holds the note.
I'm not motivated to dig for facts on this, maybe someone else is, but I suspect that changing CFM to IAE engines on an airframe is not a simple swap. The pylons are likely not compatible. Airbus has probably done it many times over on their test airframes, but I doubt this takes place outside of Toulouse or Hamburg.
