It's a software change and hang the new engine. If you want to do it you can it just takes $$$$.

At another Major I worked for we actually flew what's called a mix at times. One engine can produce 15,000 lbs and the other 12,000 lbs do the EPR correct and you're good to go. TC knows we can find airframes so why make a major order.
If you're talking about the same basic engine, such as a JT8D on a 727 or a DC-9, yeah, piece of cake. Same mounting points, accessories, etc. But a CFM-56 versus a V2500? I kind of doubt it.
