All mass shootings are crimes, bad, and tragedies. Also, bombings, arsons, stabbing events and running down people with a vehicle are crimes, bad and tragedies.
The problem of equivocating "sane" gun control with school shootings is like saying because the max had crashes, airplane travel should be banned for safety concerns.

So far the Max has killed nearly 10x more people than school shootings did in a year. Neither are probably preventable, one is an engineering/design/training mistake, the others are deliberate crimes.
There is a “common sense” solution to aviation safety. We simply require law abiding people who want to buy a ticket to go through an approved vendor, undergo a background check, have a 7 day waiting period, and limit the seating capacity to 10 or less. Aviation deaths will be greatly reduced.
