Both the company and ALPA have said a big reason for these classes is new instructor training to prepare for a HUGE wave of training this upcoming fall/winter/spring. Right now UAL has 45 new Boeings arriving in 2020 and they are all growth (17 are wide-bodies).

Combine that with known retirements and the training footprint looks staggering across all fleets.
