Two things make me laugh about this thread.
1. “Bite the bullet and move from 135 to regional”. I’ve done both. I was even a 135 CP/DO. There may be some 135 operations that are great but most regionals blow away 135 in pay and QOL.
2. “Don’t commute for a regional.” I would say the inverse. Don’t uproot your family for a regional unless it’s easy to do. Such as not owning a house, spouse not working, no kids or kids not in school. Things such as that. Regional bases can close on a whim.
In your case, I’m assuming by “West Texas” you mean ELP. Look at places where you can commute, preferably on your regional metal. IAH, DFW, PHX... others?
When people say “don’t commute for a regional”, they don’t mean uproot your family, they mean start looking at airlines with bases drivable from your home. If there aren’t, pick one that’s the easiest, shortest one leg commute and move outward from there.
