So he can be LGA based and fly 160 hours a year on reserve with no end in sight.

Sounds like a great plan.

Where did you end up? No flame, genuinely curious. You can pm me, if you don’t want to get the peanut gallery fired up.

Thanks for all the advice. I interviewed over the phone with Horizon and they offered me an in person interview later this month. I've also got interviews scheduled with Envoy, Mesa, and republic. After Speaking with Horizon it sounds like most of you are correct and the commute would just be far to difficult so I'm going to shoot for one closer to ELP. Thanks everyone!

haven't seen anyone mention MESA...not a bad shop these days. upgrades going fast. 4 bases, PHX and DFW for the AA side of the house (all CRJ) and IAH, IAD for the UA side (E75s). You could get either UA or AA flying and still live in TX and use all that time saved commuting to NOn-rev to AK to visit the family.
.Lots to think about.

No matter what the recruiters say, Envoy isn’t going to get you into Texas. You’ll be on the 145 in New York for the forseeable future.

To Dksstompin, the Thread Starter:

Can you give us an update on where you ended up?

This was a great thread and frankly, THE REASON why someone invented the internet. You received some excellent advice in this thread from some very experienced guys. BLACKHAWK said somewhere in this thread that it is rare to see such a unanimous opinion on APC on any topic. More often than not, these boards just turn into nasty and useless back and forths. But on this topic, everyone banded together and saved you from yourself😊
It was cringe-worthy reading that you were considering commuting to SEattle from EL Paso. Luckily, you saw the light.

I just saw this whole thread now- months after it died out- but at the time, I would have not hesitated in recommending Mesa.

So, if you read this, let us know what you ended up doing...
