Hot reserve is indeed a big deal even if you live in base. 8 hour stretch for 3 days in a row is a huge hit to QOL. I get used maybe 1 out of 5 times on HRV and most of the times I get used, they assign me a flight 3-4 hours in advance because they are out of SCRs. If you do come to PSA, expect to be on reserve for at least 7-12 months after training and then if you do upgrade at 1000 hours, expect another 2 years on reserve as a CA.
But that being said, living in base makes reserve slightly more tolerable. The pay is alright and overall things seem to be headed in the right direction.
