It’s not for right now, but if a new hire gets one in training they should probably plan to be on reserve for some time as more FO’s who are senior to them transition over to the 175 in the coming months. Case in point: my sim partner in the ATP class a year ago will be transitioning to the 175 in the coming months. He’s based in Chicago at the moment but will be transitioning to Houston to fly the 175. So he and other FO’s like him will keep newbies on reserve.

I think the 175 went junior on FO’s because a lot of FO’s either A: wanted to pass on this initial fielding to let more junior guys work out the kinks of operating a new airframe or B: expect to be moving onto a new airline within the next few years, so why bother learning a new airplane this year and another one within a year or two? I’m in the latter group. Heck, I plan to stay 145, become a CA ASAP to log TPIC, and start snagging interviews to move on with my career.
