And didn't Regional flying just exceed 50% of all domestic trips for the first time? The race to the bottom hasn't really changed yet, but it might.
I believe that post makes the mistake of implying that Gojet is just another one of the regional airlines and all regional airlines are bad, and that is far from true. The differences between Gojet and the other regionals is huge.
Maybe all regionals require some sacrifice as does any job but the other airlines are not the same.
I was lucky to get an average daily credit on a line of 4.5 hours per day. Other regionals probably average well over 5 if you have any seniority. If you just use an average of .5 per day difference for 18 days that is a loss of 9 hours. So at Gojet a pilot has to work 2 days more per month for the same pay. That is 24 days a year that a pilot loses.
Flexibility at Gojet was zero. Your line was your line unless you found a person to swap.
The Union had no power. The union volunteers were trying their best but they just didn't know what they were doing. None of them lasted long as the company targeted them unless they worked more for the company and worked against the pilots. Hi Chris.
The Sword of Damocles was always hanging over your head held by a single hair. When my phone rang and I saw the number was from Saint Louis, I always wondered, "what did I do wrong, why are they calling me, why would they want to fire me?"
Gojet does many things to make things sound like they are the same as at other regionals. They have a 4 hour per day guarantee (small print, not on 1st and last day). They provide disability insurance of 2/3 of your pay (small print, up to 1000 per month.) They give you other airline longevity credit, so if you go there with 4 years of 121 experience you start at 5th year pay. (Small print, you stay at that pay until your hire date reaches that time, so you don't get the longevity pay increases until age 5).
All regionals are not the same.
