While it may be inadvisable, I know plenty of people who commute in during their RAP on occasion and change their voicemail to something like “if this is Crew Services and you have an assignment for me today, consider me notified. I’m on flight 123 and I land at 11am.” You could get burned because you’re supposed to be contactable and you’re not, but common sense and common practice seem to indicate that if you land before your earliest possible report, no big deal. Of course you’re rolling the dice since your flight could divert of get delayed. To look at it another way, what about long call? You’re still supposed to respond within 15 minutes I believe. But what if you want to commute to base during your LCR RAP? I can’t imagine anyone would have a problem with that, yet you would still technically be violating the FSM/CBA.
