Of course you’re rolling the dice since your flight could divert of get delayed. To look at it another way, what about long call? You’re still supposed to respond within 15 minutes I believe. But what if you want to commute to base during your LCR RAP? I can’t imagine anyone would have a problem with that, yet you would still technically be violating the FSM/CBA.
I’ve done it 1000 times. Tell CS the flight you are on and to just assign you a trip if it comes up and you will be in position. They can always use the acars if it’s a company flight or email you. Either way, if you get a trip when you arrive and give them a hard time, you’re not doing yourself or others any favors.
