I care about starting the engine 2 minutes early. Why? Because it allows me to start counting “block” time for 117 purposes 2 minutes early (which is another issue...it should start at door-beacon-brake). It also means I can start moving two minutes early on the last leg, and sometimes those minutes matter when you have a commute to make. I’ve hade 2 minutes make the difference between getting home in time for dinner as opposed to the next morning.
Those are quality of life improvements.
The nosewheel steering needs to be armed before the ACARS starts “block” and that doesn’t happen until after DGS debriefed how to disconnect the tow bar so you’re not gonna gain any extra time here.
