It’s 54 currently with UA eyeing the next 20 700’s at Mesa as they get sat for 175 scope. CASM will certainly be higher than a 700, but then again so will it’s PRASM, not to mention the whole point is to feed the global network so even if it is a loss leader it may be an overall profit increase.
United has a contract with Commutair to fly up to 60 145’s and they’re currently at 37. They also have a contract to fly up to 130 145’s at XJT. They only fly around 80 but have 90 or so on property.
That’s 70 50-Seat airplanes right there. The 550 is just a 50 seat stopgap with more room and dual cabins.
It is no threat to UA pilots and their scope leverage.
