Same with skiing. Rental equipment is just never like your own stuff. And the logistics of bringing your equipment on a 4 day for one overnight are just a pain. Add in lift ticket, rental car, and rental and it’s an expensive day. Often just waste the day in the hotel wishing I was skiing. Done it a few times and loved it but it was expensive and labor intensive if I brought my own stuff.
With skiing if you know what you're doing just need boots, tights, and jacket. You can rent the rest and it will work fine if you pick the right skis for the conditions.
