First, I have never seen MX punt on a real issue- sometimes they can't replicate the sqawk, but I have never, NEVER been pressured to not squawk a problem. Same with Ops/Flight- I know a pilot who decided they couldn't fly a standard ODP out of an uncontrolled airport at night, and the reserve bird flew out to do their run and bring them home.
Good for you. The guy I replaced never wrote down a single squawk in the logbook. And I was often asked to not put it in the book and rather just provide them a verbal description.
As for the TC issue, we burn through them the same way GA does- the newest end up teaching until they can do something else. The ones that suck end up going on the line where they do less damage. All my trainees have passed on the first ride, so I don't know what more to say.
Such is the price of high attrition which also speaks for itself.
As for the sleep issue, it works for some, not for others. The schedule isn't a secret- everyone knows freight dogs work crappy hours. It comes with the job.
Just letting those interested in going what awaits them. I was not oblivious to that fact.
"Default PIC" is patently insulting- Why is PIC time more valuable with someone around to read your checklists and tune your radios? I'm sorry if you can't stand to fly on your own but please don't denigrate the men and women who fly by themselves in the ice, dark, and turbulence every day.
Easy there cowboy. It is what it is. Most companies prefer multi-crew PIC time since it helps build CRM experience. I got no problems flying solo, but to me, a qualified and competent SIC is an additional resource that can come in very useful. How am I denigrating anyone by saying that???
And you know what- I think my job IS great. I've worked in offices, in retail, in customs brokerage, at a car dealership, and on a construction crew- none of them came close, even the ones that paid more. I have a lot of freedom that 121 pilots don't, and every week there's something different. Yes, parts of it suck, but I choose to enjoy the upsides, rather than getting bitter about the downsides. You say you were furloughed. Was it better to fly a ****** job like AMF, or try to scrape by selling used cars?
