I’ve always wondered why you couldn’t use it for long range weather info in 121. If it’s an FM1 thing, fine. In the king air world I could use stratus for knowing what was out there an hour an a half ahead of me and the nose radar for what’s happening now. Certainly not controlling (stratus) but any info is good to have when making decisions.

I agree, but, it’s 121 and everything has to have a training program, etc, and if you look at the FAA approval of the Stratus, big jets probably aren’t covered. I think there is actually a model that is designed for permanent installation.
But it is just one of many tools that could add so much situational awareness. Between weather and positive ID of traffic besides just a TCAS blip.
