I have a long-time friend in public college administration (not a teacher, not a Phd, not the college president). She manages 2-6 people, and makes legacy airline pay. Of course with lavish benefits out the wazoo. She's in the junior college system, and has moved around a lot... and they ALL pay that much.

Why? The administrators make bank, the union staff makes bank, the facilities are lavish and epic, but teachers/professors still complain they don't get paid enough.
