Well, I will explain to you since you are still instructing and new to this. This could actually help you with a decision down the road if you decide to work at a 135.
Some companies actually lie to get you in the door and maybe sign a contract to receive a new type rating. Or they promise you certain days off, certain pay raises etc etc. Now since we aren’t all lawyers like you are, guys/gals may sign said agreements not fully understanding what they are getting in to.
Since certain companies are known to lie about the job there are some pointers that would indicate it may not be a place conducive to long term employment. One of those is whether or not they would take the little benefits that really mean nothing to them financially. For example, the Hotel points. This may not mean much to you since you are changing careers, but can still fall back on your salary as a lawyer and take a job that won’t pay as much, or moreover be able to reject a job that you see a bad contract. Since most of us don’t have that luxury we ask some simple questions on a thread like this and if it sounds good, then get into some deeper questions about the company. So when you say things to a professional pilot like we are “whining” and just “get a job”, it’s a little offensive since you aren’t in the same position as 99% of the guys/gals asking those questions. Maybe down the road you will understand and be more constructive with your comments and not be so dismissive of people who have been there and done that. Good Luck instructing and landing that first job, and I mean that sincerely.
