Hey, I’m happy as can be he managed to almost meet his goal without killing himself. That still doesn’t mean it was a brilliant idea. Even playing Russian roulette you ‘win’ five times out of six, but that scarcely makes it advisable.

I’m sure the Commutair crew at Presque Isle was 99% sure they were actually landing on the runway. But sometimes even 99% sure just isn’t certainty enough. Personally, I’d have headed back to EWR after the first missed approach. It isn’t naysaying, it’s called prudence.

But I’d never deny someone the chance to risk THEIR OWN life, although I might advise them against it.
