Depends on how much you're making I guess .. state income tax alone decreased by $2000 / month when I left California for Pennsylvania 5 years ago. Add in housing, gas, cost of electricity, food, registration fees, water fees, and it's AT LEAST $3000 / month less for me to live in PA. That's $36,000 / year. Over a twenty year period, that's an extra million in your retirement account.
California used to be a great place to live; I was born and raised there, and spent 40+ years there. They've lost my business.
