I’m not saying there’s not things they could change, but in the end the way negotiations work, there’s so many dollars to spend, I just don’t see much changing on the reserve front at all.a lot of guys don’t understand the union is working within a cost structure to a new contract, dollars spent in one area can’t be spent in another, so they try to maximize the benefits to the entire pilot group as best possible. That’s the reality of the situation, the other reality is if we want zero give on scope, this will take a while.
While you are absolutely correct that we have all probably worked under worse reserve rules, there is another big issue. History has shown that in this industry, reserve is not always a choice. While things are good now, it's a question of "when" not "if" the economy will slow, and then growth, movement & hiring will slow or stop.
Now is the time to secure some modest, tangible, affordable but substantive improvements to our reserve system. Short call/FSB limits, allocations and assignments leap to mind....
For an association rooted more toward the liberal, collectivist side of the ideological spectrum there is a great deal of "Ladder up - I got mine" and "You'll get that when you're senior" Trickle-down thinking from some quarters.
