The secure board would magnify the impact of a highly discerning group (us) over our fellow sluggo's in the union. And unfortunately, the MEC has a fiduciary duty towards everyone in the union so any polling has to be as unbiased and scientific as possible.

And the way you do that, is a random numbers generator selecting phone numbers from the various seniority blocks.

(as an example, consider the APC ballot on the LOA versus the actual vote. Virtually everyone on this forum was surprised it passed, almost like the typical New Yorker unable to believe Reagan won since no one they know voted for him)
It is too bad that the polls normally contain loaded questions with limited answers that are easy to spin. A great tool to back up an agenda.
