Question

New Block Reps -

Why are we "randomly" polling?

Why not set up a website with a secure log-in and conduct actual surveys?

..that way everyone gets a chance to play.

Seriously, please ask as you guys get on board.

As great as the secure board/polling sounds. Just isn't a random sample. Consider how few votes were recently cast in the various elections.

The secure board would magnify the impact of a highly discerning group (us) over our fellow sluggo's in the union. And unfortunately, the MEC has a fiduciary duty towards everyone in the union so any polling has to be as unbiased and scientific as possible.

And the way you do that, is a random numbers generator selecting phone numbers from the various seniority blocks.

(as an example, consider the APC ballot on the LOA versus the actual vote. Virtually everyone on this forum was surprised it passed, almost like the typical New Yorker unable to believe Reagan won since no one they know voted for him)

Valid points --- but in the end the LOA was decided by those who actually took the time to log in and vote.

Those who voluntarily chose not to log in and vote, voluntarily gave up their right to participate.

Wouldn't a secure survey reach the same audience across the spectrum?

Cheers!

Why bother to have polling when they don't listen to it anyway?

Seriously. Why bother? I don't mean to be confrontational, but save the money and start fighting the company for canceling the bid, and make dang sure that anybody who is due passover because their award was canceled gets it.

Simple enough.

I won't bother wasting my time participating in another poll until the MEC proves to me that they will actually take action based on the results. They have not done so for many months.

It is their turn to show some leadership to get the masses back in play.

It is too bad that the polls normally contain loaded questions with limited answers that are easy to spin. A great tool to back up an agenda.

FedEx used to conduct survey-feedbacks every so often, where you could answer questions and provide input/complaints about different areas. Initially, flight managers and other were listed by names, with specific questions about their performance (this may have been back in the JW Chief Pilot time frame). Then, when the answers started being undesirable, it migrated to much more general questions and answers, with no names associated. Then, again when the answers were not what was really being looked for, it migrated to a very short, very general questions, form. Then, it finally went away. While it existed, even at the end, the company was at least giving the appearance of wanting to know our feelings on things.

Sounds like ALPA is smarter, and instead of really getting usable, specific, information, they just go with the mode of being able to show 'they are trying'.

I'd rather they save the money and not bother me for 20 min's answering a poll that's going to be ignored!~

I can't believe there are two pages of responses to a thread with this title, and none of them contain jokes about Tom Hanks and volleyballs.

Better yet, why don't they do random samples of email addresses so that we can put some thought into the answers at our own time, rather than hurrying through so we can eat dinner.
