The pilot can concentrate on what's going around him/her and not flying the aircraft. Or the aircraft knows where it is and won't allow ground contact, it has geo fenced areas that will allow it to descend within XXX feet of the ground in those areas.

Interesting safety concept nonetheless.
Or just another rated pilot to say “hey I don’t like this let’s cut bait and head back. It’s too risky.”

How many times would many of us have pushed it if it were not for the other guy sitting there saying something or just the fact that he’s even sitting there makes for more conservative and safe decision making.
