Horizon, Alaska’s wholly-owned regional, is another option out west. Cat IIIB’s and RNP 0.1’s using HUD’s into weather that’s not CAVU very often (especially in winter) and many smaller airports in significant terrain.

It seems the western flying scenery wise is beautiful compared to the east coast. Are the airports less congested? Does this get old? Do you enjoy it? I've always wanted to have a stint living in the western USA and it seems flying there would be a huge plus.

If one's short term goal is to live out west, and do a lot of flying into desert airports (Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, etc.) are Sky West and Mesa the best choices for this type of flying? In your option, is seeking "flying into desert airports" the same as picking a regional based on jet type?
