I had a variation of that question during my interview two weeks ago. I was honest that I was there to accrue experience to gain that next step. They were totally OK with that during the interview, I think they prefer honesty to obviously trying to tell them what you think they want to hear.
Yes, this^^^. All regionals know that any one of their new hires would bale on the first thing smoking given a chance. Can’t imagine anyone, regardless of background experience, answering any other way.
