Most of you are too young to remember but as recently as 15 years ago pilots were weeded out early on. If you were older than 30 the majors wouldn't hire you. There were strict vision and height to weight requirements. Almost everyone came from the military. They mostly only hired males. There was no such thing as a student loan for flight training. The interview included a full day or two of medical and psychological testing. Though these advances make it better for all it also opens the door wide to almost everyone and it seems that everyone is showing up and will continue to do so.
