Yeah, but if the AP goes off someone with low instrument time could easily get disoriented...especially because we don't get a lot of practice. The idea is to have enough gauge time in the past so that you can automatically fall back on it if needed.
Actual vs. hood doesn't make much difference, except those with actual probably know a bit about ice too
