"Simulated" Question

It's nice flying a t-prop for your first job. You rack up more actual then you care to brag about in a very short period of time. I miss flying on sunny, 'clear and a million' days down in FL. Why can't every day be like that?

Funny the require the 100 actual because flying in the clouds with auto pilot is really hard
That is what is great about the T-Prop...you are always in the weather. In the northeast you average 3-4 hours actual a day in the winter.

Actual vs. hood doesn't make much difference, except those with actual probably know a bit about ice too

A few weeks ago, or AP was INOP, and we flew all day like that in MOD Turb/Icing all day long. And I learned something important --- what tail icing feels like on an ILS to mins. Also, CRM is VERY important in this situation. Juice is right. I have been averaging about 3-4 hrs of IMC/day. Which kind of stinks, because I like to look out the window...
I also agree with Rick too...

Yeah, but if the AP goes off someone with low instrument time could easily get disoriented...especially because we don't get a lot of practice. The idea is to have enough gauge time in the past so that you can automatically fall back on it if needed.

Good idea for everyone to click off the AP in actual once in while to keep those skills sharp. We had an MEL AP/FD for a few days and had to shoot all apps to mins because of cigs. Fun times!!

Yes I agree, but since most slap the AP on at 500 feet I would be curious to see how effective their scan would be if they needed to shoot an app to mins after months of not hand flying in clear and blue, no less in the clouds.

These are Jets - and they're made to be flown on automation! We can't hand-fly these things...much less without the FD! Who do you think we are? Pilots?! And what do you think these are? Airplanes?

I felt so ashamed of myself when I had to hand fly a trip with a busted FD/AP. I had to check myself when I was "upset" that I had to now actually fly the plane. A pilot flying the airplane..what a concept.

this is my first post but i've been a regular reader of these forums for a few years. Timmay are you the guy that ate the 72 oz steak and bisquit/gravy at that steak house off of i-40 last semester?
