Default "Simulated" Question

I sent a resume and app to Skywest last week and recieved an email back asking for a breakdown of my instrument time. It's still kinda low, as nearly all the flying I've done in the last year has been VFR. The email stated that only 20 hours of "simulated" instrument would count toward the 100 required. What does this mean??? 20 hrs of hood time in an airplane w/ a safety pilot or instructor, or 20 hrs of simulator like a Frasca?? Seems to me they mean simulator time, but I could be wrong. What's ya'lls take?

Simulated IFR (hood) time is most likely what they're asking for. Time in a Frasca or AST isn't worth much to an airline.

Over a year of 121 and I still only have 50 hrs Actual...what have you got now and how much is simulated (in an actual aircraft)?

I believe their mins have always been no more than 20 hours of instrument time logged in a flight simulator. Hood time is ok.

Send them a breakdown like this.

Actual IFR: x
Simulated in airplane: y
Simulated in simulator: z

If you have the minimums covered I'm sure they will let you know.

They hired me with a mere 16 actual. It's hard to come by if you live in sunny SoCal. I had 20 or so in a simulator, and the rest was all hood time. They seemed ok with that.

Thanks, that's exactly what I did. Anybody know where to get some cheap sim time in the DFW area? Looks like I can still get 19.2 more, and it should count!

Well send it in...It's probably a toss-up but I think you stand a good chance at getting a call! Good luck...
