Omni doesn’t have much “bidding” from what they told me. You bid for days off and maybe if you want to be based in Vegas. So, an FO that hasn’t upgraded, isn’t doing so for the schedule I assume. Maybe they know they won’t make upgrade and the original post was spot on.
There are two types of bids.
The monthly schedule bids are a mix of lines that are mostly reserve days where you bid your days on/off; and a smaller chunk of lines of scheduled flying much like a normal airline bid line.
The other bid is a System Bid for upgrade, base/program, equipment changes. This is where you would bid Vegas, General Population, or Special Programs. It has been running just about every month for various reasons. It also runs whenever they need Captains, whenever they need people in Vegas/Special Programs.
There are plenty of guys in special programs, or Vegas, or bidding known flying near where they live that can not hold the same positions as Captains. The most junior Captain in Vegas for example is 12 year seniority, the most junior FO in Vegas is a new hire.
