Kirby also said it would be foolish to not be ready to be in a position to respond quickly if demand rebounds from 50-100 overnight. While I don’t believe this will happen, at least the company acknowledges the need to rapidly back build capacity if it should rebound.
I do think this chain of events adds on 3-5 years for regional guys getting hired, and those hired likely will be back to the realm of college degree, min 1000 pic, multiple types etc and create a new population of regional lifers.
Also, for all the geniuses saying college degrees aren’t important... it’ll be the difference between you working at 7-11 and an office job with benefits/decent pay/stability etc when you’re furloughed. Get the degree, make sure it’s non aviation related. Once you get that degree, get a masters. The laziness amongst the uneducated in our field is truly astounding.

Do you really think that the global economy will recover from this that fast? Shelter in place orders are going on all over the world, businesses are going to fail from loss revenue, and not just the domestic, but the global economy is going to be hit hard. How can we have several months of this and be back to where we were in a year or less? United has already said that they expect our current reductions to intensify and last several months, followed by a slower than hoped for recovery, and a smaller company as a result.
