Well I'd say it's been since 2008??? or so since any airline (of major size) has furloughed, many on the the seniority lists (and reading msg boards) you have 20/30 yr olds who may be unfamiliar with how this will play out eventually.
I own a 20yr old who happens to be in college. Just this summer I was having a conversation with him about internships/plans for after graduation in a couple of years. In his world where he has worked as a lifeguard in a couple of places while tutoring and sometimes at a store while in HS and first summers of college, he has NEVER known a bad job market. He has only applied, interviewed and been asked "when can you start?" at every job he's attempted to get.
That's his experience growing up during an expanding economy with record unemployment. So there are more recent pilots/youngsters who have had a bit of a utopian employment experience so far who are about to introduced to the other side of the coin.
Hopefully something can help and make it an expeditious recovery so we all don't have to wallow in a downturn long.
