New hire pay in 1990 was 30k, in todays dollars that is worth 51k.
New hire pay in 2000 was 26k, in todays dollars that is woth 38k.
New hire pay in 2004 was 26k in todays dollars that is worth 28k.

Of course this is all before taxes. So Fr8dog you had a lot more buying power with your 20k after taxes than todays newhire with his 20k after taxes.
