I think this guy will look back on this is one of the best things that ever happened to him. He'll retire with his head held high that he did was he felt was right and the admiration of those under his command. He'll also have an O-6 pension and likely fall into a high paying gig and maybe become a news "analyst." He'll also realize how much time he now has to devote to his family. I mean why would you want to stay in a service that twisted what you did and raked you over the coals for something that someone else leaked?
